15/18mm Austrian Cavalry Comparison Part 2

After I did the comparison post on Austrian cavalry it was pointed out that I'd missed some. Obviously I don't have every manufacturers figures to hand to compare them, but there are some that I did have that I forgot about including, so here is another comparison with other figures.

These are, from left to right in both pictures, an Austrian Hussar from Blue Moon, a Uhlan from Battle Honours, a Dragoon from Boki Miniatures on a Campaign Games Miniatures horse, a line infantry officer from Old Glory, and an AB general.

These are all roughly compatible, although the Old Glory figure and horse seem a lot smaller. For other Old Glory mounted figures I've remounted them on larger horses and they look fine, but this is a single piece casting, so maybe not the best representation.

The Battle Honours figure is a little small as well, but would possibly benefit again from going onto a larger mount.

Blue Moon's figure is by far the smallest of the separately cast riders, and although he's on a larger mount he still looks like a very small 15mm figure, especially when you consider that Blue Moon's foot figures are closer to 18mm than 15mm. The other issue with this range is that the horses are very thick through the body, so other figures can't sit on them comfortably.

So, the only range that I would like to have shown that is missing is the Fantassin/Warmodelling/Battle Models range.

15mm / 18mm Napoleonic Comparison - Generals

The postman delivered a nice bag of miniatures from Old Glory UK today - some Austrian German Grenadiers (a command bag and a bag of grenadiers), which was enough for another 32 man battalion, and also leaving me enough command figures to allow me to complete the last two Grenadier battalions when I get round to buying two more packs of grenadiers.

The other bag was the new Austrian Generals set. These were released along with Blue Moons French, 1809 British, Russian and Prussian sets, which include 10 generals and 10 horse each.

These are lovely little figures, which were cleanly cast and ready to paint with very little preparation (the Grenadiers had a fair bit of flash under their trailing arm - an issue that seems to affect all the Blue Moon miniatures). You not only get 9 different Generals, but also 9 different mounts. And very nice horses they are as well.

I feel that, as with the other cavalry figures I have from Blue Moon, the only issue with these figures is that they are very small, and seem smaller that their infantry counterparts. One based and on the table this may not be noticeable, but I've put together some comparison shots for you to judge for yourself...

These are, top row from left to right, an Austrian mounted officer from Old Glory, a new Austrian General from Blue Moon, a French General from Warmodelling, an Austrian General from Old Glory (I had thought this one was Battle Honours but I was wrong), an Austrian General from AB (this one is Revolutionary Period) and lastly, a French General (Murat) from Sho Boki Miniatures.

Here are the Generals side by side to give a better idea of sizes.

Left to right, these are from Sho Boki, Blue Moon, Warmodelling and AB.

As you can see the Blue Moon figure is a lot smaller, but as the horse is slightly larger than the other makes it may even out the overall height of the mounted miniature.

GM August Graf Briey de Landres

For my second brigade, which will consist of two battalions of IR47 Kinsky Regiment, the command base represents GM August Graf Briey de Landres. I've used a Warmodelling General to represent Briey, and the other in possibly from Battle Honours.

I tried to add a bit of scenery to this base, using a bit of broken twig to try for a battle damaged tree trunk. Not sure if it works or not. I'm also slightly unhappy with the horse the officer with the telescope is riding. It's a bit small compared to my other horses. I also found issues with the way the Warmodelling general fitted to his mount. The saddle cloth didn't fit snuggly onto the back of the horse unless the general was at a weird angle. I tried to pad it out with some green stuff, and it looked fine until I took the photos. It's probably fine for the table, but not my favourite base.

And here's the Army so far (minus the artillery) with IR47 Kinsky advancing in column while IR23 march from column into line.
